Powder Snow and Magic Corn Snow

Ski Tours All around the Alpe di Siusi

Winter on the Alpe di Siusi
"All week long, I sit at my desk. So on the weekend, I've got to come up here to the mountains." Stefan, a wiry man in his forties, is the boss of a big trade company. I've often wondered about his tanned, outdoorsy appearance, which didn't seem to depend upon the time of year. After all, I never ran into him at the ski lift. So what has Stefan been doing in the mountains during the winter? "The most-beautiful thing on Earth," he says, "I put my skis on and ascend the slopes, and once I've reached the summit, I plough down through the thick snow!"

The Plattkoferl – The Ultimate of All Tours

Winter on the Alpe di Siusi
The ultimate tour of all tours in the Seiser Alm region is the descent from the Plattkofel. This mighty mountain, almost 3,000 meters high, is characterized by massive yet uniformly steep flanks. As one of the few big summits of the Dolomites, it can be climbed by skiers. Thus, after the first big snowfall, it begins drawing skiers from far and wide like a magnet. Starting at the Zallinger Alpine Hut, the ski climbing skins are put on. After about an hour, one reaches the Fassajoch and the Plattkofel Alpine Hut. From there, the trip to the summit takes about two hours. It requires stamina – and really good snow conditions, of course. Otherwise, you would be well advised to head back. Even experienced ski mountaineers do not take any unnecessary risks.
