Völser Kuchlkastl

The "Kuchlkastl" Culinary Festival in Völs am Schlern is a secret tip among gourmets and friends of "down home" cooking, alike. Since 1978, the inkeepers and restaurant owners in Völs have been inviting visitors to partake in the "Gastronomical October".

At the close of the season, the best chef cooks of Völs will do their utmost to astonish and enchant you with new variations of traditional dishes - dishes prepared with passion and enjoyed with fine appreciation. If you are in search of original dishes, based on time-honored recipes, but with a modern accent, you ought not to miss this month-long culinary festival in Völs am Schlern.

Transhumance in October

Back home, this is the ideal reference for livestock, including cows, sheep and goats after a summer spent on the Seiser Alm returning to their stables. Accompanied by bells and wreaths the animals inhabit the area from Compatsch to Kastelruth. The transhumance festivity takes place at Compatsch and afterwards in the village square of Kastelruth. Refreshments accompanied by local folk-music avaites you.

Even in Völs am Schlern you can enjoy the tradition of transhumance. At the beginning of October the cattle returns from the Malga Tuff to the valley. The herd’s blessing takes place at around 12 a.m in Völs am Schlern.

Seiser Alm cableway

The panoramic cablecar Siusi-Seiser Alm takes little and grown-up outdoor fans in a few minutes from Siusi allo Sciliar (1.015m) up to Compaccio (1.857m) to the high plateau Seiser Alm, also known as Europe’s largest mountain plateau.

The Seiser Alm Aerial Cableway and the lifts are in function from mid-May to the beginning of November.
