At the western entrance to the
Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage, between 1800 and 2300 metres above sea level, lies one of the most fascinating natural and cultural landscapes. The
Seiser Alm is Europe’s largest high-mountain pasture. It covers 56 square kilometres which correspond to 8,000 football pitches.
Blooming mountain meadows, grand summits, magnificent hiking trails leading through a landscape paradise: all of this near the Sciliar mountain, creating a great atmosphere together with the Denti di Terrarossa, Sasso Lungo and the Sasso Piatto mountains. These are by no means common mountains, but stony coral riffs. Many years ago, they were far below the water surface in a huge ocean; today, they seem to be close to the sky! Between mid June and mid July, the area is covered with flowers, which cannot be found anywhere else in the nearby region. The cultural landscape marked by agriculture is an outdoor arena for active people, bon vivants and families.
The villages
Castelrotto,
Siusi,
Fiè and
Tires al Catinaccio are located at the foot of the mountain pasture and the people are deeply rooted into their traditions and customs.
