Winter on the Alpe di Siusi

Becoming Acquainted with Magical Landscapes on Cross-Country Skis

Cross country skiing on the Alpe di Siusi
The wintry, snow-covered Alpe di Siusi is a true paradise for cross-country ski enthusiasts and hikers. The seemingly endless wide open spaces, the gently rolling hills, the sunny dells, the forest, and the meadows – and everything against the magnificent backdrop of the towering Dolomites (World Natural Heritage site) – invite you to explore them, either on cross-country skis or by foot. An extensive network of cross-country courses and winter hiking trails means you have a great variety of possible routes – all of them offering wondrous beauty. Cross-country ski enthusiasts can choose from 60 km of courses of different levels of difficulty. All of the cross-country ski courses have double or quadruple lanes and are prepared for skating. On the other hand, the more than 30 km of winter hiking trails enable hikers to take their time and explore – close up – the beautiful landscapes of the high-altitude plateau.

Cross-country skiing runs

Since the winter season 2008/09 the Alpe di Siusi is part of Dolomiti Nordicski. Europe’s largest Nordic skiing circuit includes 1,300 km of cross-country ski-tracks, 60 km of them are on the Alpe di Siusi.

For the use of the cross-country ski-tracks on the Alpe di Siusi a toll must be paid. The daily, weekly and season tickets are available at the tourist offices, the ski schools and at the Alpe di Siusi aerial cableway.

South Tyrol Moonlight Classic Seiser Alm 19.01.2011

Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi
The moon will be astounded when it peeks over the Dolomites. Because that’s when the starting pistol will fire for a cross-country marathon of a most unusual kind. Several hundred cross-country skiers will shove off from Compatsch and glide on their narrow skis in the light of their forehead-mounted lamps through the landscape. They’ll follow the route for 36 or 20 kilometres, finally returning to their starting point. But the Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classics” is a fantastic experience not only for the participants, but for the spectators, too!...and the last aerial lift descends into the valley, an hour after midnight.
