The speciality weeks, organised on the initiative of the local Hotel and Restaurateur association, aims to bring together the culinary traditions of the Dolomites region Seiser Alm and offer locals and guests a vibrant, sustainable event.

Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride

Ever year in May, the famed Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride takes place in Kastelruth, Seis und Völs am Schlern. The largest horse-riding event in South Tyrol, the Oswald von Wolkenstein is a blend of mediaeval tradition and South Tyrol’s long-standing, abiding love for Hafling riding events. Each and every race, this gallop into the Middle Ages is a time-honoured spring tradition in the Dolomites region Seiser Alm.

When the last of the snow melts away, the Seiser Alm and the slopes beneath the Rosengarten are magically transformed into a shimmering carpet of white and lilac. The crocus blossom is an incredible sight to behold, and the sure sign that the countryside is awakening. Blossoming crocuses are commonly found in snowy and high-altitude spots, and their white-purple flowers only adorn the Alpine meadows for about 1-2 weeks.

Völser Weiher lake

The Völser Weiher lake is classed as one of the cleanest lakes in Italy. The idyllically situated lake at the foot of the Schlern massif promises relaxation and recreation. Whether it's taking a short circular walk around the lake, drifting across the pond in a rowing boat and experiencing the surrounding landscape from a different perspective, treading water in the Kneipp basin on the eastern shore of the lake or stopping for a bite to eat in the surrounding cafes and restaurants. Surrounded by a picturesque atmosphere you can spend many hours on the lake shore, forget the daily worries and immerse yourself in the rural idyll.

Wines from Fiè have character

With its 45 hectares of vineyards, Fiè allo Sciliar has become a small but fine wine-growing community in recent years. Five ambitious winegrowers - Markus Prackwieser from Gump Hof, Otmar Mair from Besserer Hof, Christoph and Andreas Mock from Wasserer Hof, Stephan Pramstrahler from Grottner Hof and Patrick Planer from Prackfoler Hof - are making a name for themselves beyond the borders of the community.

All year round, the Völs winemakers offer year-round guided vineyard tours with wine tasting.

Prösels Castle

Prösels Castle was built around 1200 by the Lords of Völs, aristocratic retainers to the Bishopric of Brixen, and, in the early 16th century, was extended and converted into a Renaissance castle by Leonhard von Völs, Governor of Tyrol. The castle as we see it today is, almost in entirety, the result of his works.

On a guided tour, you can explore the knights’ hall, the pillar hall, the hearth room, the castle chapel and many other rooms in the Renaissance castle. In the summer months the castle courtyard and castle gardens provide the venue for numerous concerts which, in the case of inclement weather conditions, are held in the knights’ hall.

Hay bath

The hay bath tradition first began in the spa town of Völs am Schlern hat, and now looks back on a 110-year-long tradition. The hay bath as we know it today evolved from the traditional farmers’ practice of sleeping in a haystack during the haymaking: after spending a night in the hay, they woke up to find that all their fatigue from the day before had simply vanished. When you sweat, the powers of the healing herbs unfurl to the full; a hay bath improves the circulation, promotes muscle regeneration, relieves tension, and is a wonderful way to relax. All that remains, then, is to switch off and enjoy the experience!
