Seiser Alm Nature: In rainy weather, they fly above our heads in thick flocks, snapping insects out of the air in mid flight. You’ve almost certainly seen barn swallows — but have you ever taken a close look at them? 🦅 On their upper side, these migratory birds shimmer and glisten a beautiful blue-black, while their throats are a reddish-brown; in flight, the men are easily recognisable by their elongated forked tails. 🔝 One of the most widepsread bird species in the world, barn swallows used to be a common sight in every rural village, where they would build their bowl-shaped, clay nests inside barns and byres. 🏡 However, with the decline of small-scale farms and the sharp drop in insect species, their numbers have, unforunately, been waning steadily over the past few years. 😞
