Facts & figures

The municipality is comprised of a main town with eleven factions and an area with a difference in altitude of about 2,000 metres. The name “Kastelruth” (the German name of Castelrotto) first appeared in the 10th century and probably goes back to a destroyed castle, Castellum Ruptum (Latin), on the Calvary hill.
