Your winter hikes in South Tyrol

Exploring the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm while winter hiking

Winter hiking in South Tyrol has its very own charm, especially on the Seiser Alm. Here, 60 kilometres of winter hiking trails await you in pristine nature: perfectly groomed and offering magnificent views of Langkofel, Plattkofel, Schlern and Rosengarten.
For winter hiking you only need sturdy, winter-appropriate footwear and warm clothing; snowshoes are not required, though all winter hiking trails can also be used for snowshoeing. You are particularly safe on the avalanche-secure winter hiking trails on the Seiser Alm.

In the villages down in the valley, too, there is a wide network of trails perfectly suited for winter hiking. Along these routes – both up on the Seiser Alm and down in the valley – numerous huts invite you to stop, warm up and enjoy a break. Some are even open in the evening, allowing you to set out on a moonlight hike.

The Hans und Paula Steger trail
Popular hiking trail named after mountain pioneers
This themed trail is named after the couple Paula Wiesinger and Hans Steger, who made significant pioneering contributions to skiing and alpinism. The route leads across the Seiser Alm, from the top station of the Seiser Alm Aerial Cablewayto Saltria at the foot of Langkofel and Plattkofel. Along the way, information boards explore the many distinctive features of the Seiser Alm: its geological formation history, its flora and fauna, human settlement, and the region’s mysterious world of legends.

Freedom with consideration
Anyone spending time outdoors in winter – whether winter hiking, ski touring or snowshoeing – must act with consideration for wildlife and their needs. The informational brochure available below was created by the Alpenverein Südtirol, the Club Alpino Italiano and the Südtiroler Jagdverband, and contains everything you need to know.
