    The glow of the Rosengarten
An unforgettable experience is the alpenglow, known locally as Enrosadira. At sunset, the Dolomites rock glows in the most beautiful shades of red. The Rosengarten massif lights up against the evening sky in fiery red tones. One of the best places to watch this magical spectacle is the Wuhnleger, a popular pond in Tiers am Rosengarten. According to legend, the alpenglow can be traced back to King Laurin’s curse.

    The legend of King Laurin
Once upon a time, the dwarf King Laurin ruled over the Rosengarten massif, where he tended a beautiful rose garden. When King Dietrich of Bern organised a wedding for his daughter Simhilde on the River Etsch, all the nobles of the area were invited – except Laurin. He put on his magic cap, which made him invisible, and went to the celebration anyway. When he saw Simhilde, he fell in love instantly and kidnapped her. Dietrich set out with his men to rescue her. Laurin, equipped with his magic belt and cap, which made him invisible again, faced them in battle. But because he leapt around too wildly in his rose garden, the movement of the roses gave him away and he was captured. Furious, he cursed the rose garden: “Neither by day nor by night shall any human eye ever see the rose garden again!” He forgot, however, to include dawn and dusk – and so the Rosengarten still glows today at sunrise and sunset.

The community garden in Tiers am Rosengarten
The Bergler Acker is an initiative launched by several tourism businesses in Tiers am Rosengarten. Through the joint, ecological cultivation of vegetables on the Bergler Acker, they aim to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen regional supply chains.
A key feature of the project is the zero-kilometre principle: the vegetables are delivered directly to the participating tourism businesses and reach guests’ plates freshly harvested and without long transport routes.
The Bergler Acker therefore serves as a model project for the responsible use of natural resources, the preservation of biodiversity and the strengthening of regional communities.

The Mountaineering Village Tiers am Rosengarten
How it all began
Tiers am Rosengarten played a significant role in the early Alpine exploration of South Tyrol, as it served as the gateway to the Dolomites. The old road to the village was built as early as 1811. At the end of the 19th century, mountaineering in the Dolomites began, and the first mountain huts were constructed. Over time, the village developed into today’s Mountaineering Village – an internationally popular destination for hikers and climbers.
