Experience the Dolomites in autumn

Your autumn holiday in South Tyrol filled with peace & enjoyment

Experiencing the Dolomites in autumn is a dream. The mountain air is wonderfully crisp, the distant views are truly impressive and the colours of nature glow intensely. The light, too, is especially atmospheric at this time of year – the perfect setting for an autumn holiday in South Tyrol, where you can unwind and recharge.

The hiking trails remain accessible throughout autumn, and the Seiser Alm Aerial Cablewaydoes not close until early November – ensuring a long hiking season. Many of the cosy huts on the Seiser Alm stay open until then as well, treating you to seasonal dishes full of autumnal flavours.

In addition, autumn offers many sunny, warm days with stable weather – ideal for hiking, biking and running. At the same time, fewer people are out and about compared to the summer months. This means more tranquillity, stillness and pure natural enjoyment all to yourself.

Insights into the traditions of the Dolomites Region

At the beginning of October, the cattle, goats and sheep that have spent the summer on the Seiser Alm return to the valley. Decorated with floral wreaths and accompanied by the sound of bells, the animals make their way along the roads between Compatsch and Kastelruth. Naturally, the transhumance is also celebrated: first in Compatsch and then in the village square of Kastelruth, with traditional food and music. Völs am Schlern hosts its own transhumance as well. Also in early October, the livestock from the Tuffalm returns to the village. Around midday, a traditional blessing takes place in the village square. Don’t miss it!

Pure autumn enjoyment: hiking & Törggelen
One of the most delightful autumn traditions is Törggelen, which pairs beautifully with a hike through the colourful landscape. Enjoy the magnificent Dolomites panorama and breathe in the cool, fresh mountain air. Afterwards, stop at a historic farmhouse, a rustic cellar, a mill or a Buschenschank, typical farm restaurant. Our tip: a circular hike along the Oachner Höfeweg, farm path, near Völs am Schlern, passing old farms, wine terraces and chestnut groves.
