What you need to know about the hut tourThis multi-day tour with breathtaking views of the Dolomites takes you to some of the most beautiful spots in the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm. On the first day, you climb the Schlern – the iconic mountain of South Tyrol. On the second day, you walk to the Tierser Alpl, the privately run mountain hut with its striking red roof, and on the third day to the Plattkofel hut beneath the rocky plate of the Plattkofel summit. If you wish, hiking guides from the region can accompany you on every stage. -
The first day of the multi-day tourThe tour begins in Compatsch. From there, you either walk up to Hotel Panorama or take the chairlift and continue towards the Saltner Schwaige. A series of bends leads you up onto the Schlern plateau and finally to the Schlernhaus hut (2,457 m), often called the “castle in the mountains” due to its shape.
Tip: Don’t miss the sunset on the Petz, the highest point of the Schlern (2,564 m). From the Schlernhaus, it is only a 15-minute walk.- Duration: 3.5 hours
- Distance: 9.2 km
- Altitude gain: 827 m
-
The second day of the multi-day tourDay two is long, but with relatively few metres of ascent. From the Schlern ridge, you head towards the Roterdspitze and descend steeply until you catch sight of the red roof of the Tierser Alpl (2,441 m) – a perfect place for a lunch break. Following the signposts, you continue comfortably to the Plattkofel hut. Throughout the tour you enjoy stunning views of the Rosengarten, the Langkofel Group and the Marmolada, the highest peak of the Dolomites. Tip: Get up early and experience the sunrise right in front of the hut – an unforgettable start to the day.
- Duration: 4 hours
- Distance: 12.1 km
- Altitude gain: 499 m
-
The third day of the multi-day tourThe location of the Plattkofel hut is spectacular – and so is the sunrise on the Plattkofel. A 1.5-hour ascent and 650 metres of elevation gain bring you from the hut to the summit cross. The panorama from the top is breathtaking, and breakfast back in the hut tastes twice as good afterwards.
This stage also shows how vast the Seiser Alm really is. The descent leads from the Plattkofel hut via the Murmeltier hut to Saltria, and from there back to Compatsch.- Duration: 4 hours
- Distance: 11.8 km
- Altitude loss: 705 m

General informationIn 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. To highlight their geological uniqueness, the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail was created – a 175 km long-distance trail consisting of ten stages. It offers a ten-day journey through some of the most impressive Dolomite mountain groups. Each stage can also be hiked independently as a day tour. The third and fourth stages pass through the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm, and almost all entry and exit points are accessible by public transport. -
From the Karerpass to the Tierser Alpl hutStage three of the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail II leads you from the Karerpass straight through the Rosengarten Group and over the Schlern ridge to the Tierser Alpl hut. Along the way, you walk through the Middle Triassic – an intact ancient reef structure including the deep sea (Karerpass), the northern reef slope (Rosengarten) and the inner lagoon (Vajolet towers). -
From the Tierser Alpl hut to St. UlrichDuring the fourth stage of the ten-day Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail II, you descend from the Tierser Alpl hut onto the Seiser Alm, the largest high Alpine pasture in Europe. The route continues past volcanic rocks, across lush meadows and by inviting huts, ending finally in St. Ulrich in Gröden.
