Local value cycles & the “alma” project

The Dolomites Region Seiser Alm & its focus on local products

Local quality is in high demand across many fields, especially when it comes to food. Locals and guests increasingly ask where products come from and want to learn more about the places and people behind them. In 2023, the initiative “Völser Products” placed local products and goods in the spotlight. This initiative strengthened our vision of supporting local value cycles. In 2024, we expanded it to the entire Dolomites Region Seiser Alm – the project “alma” was born.

The project name explained simply & clearly
The “alma” project stands for trust and mutual respect. It creates a local economic cycle in which supply and demand are balanced and appreciation takes top priority. This culture of cooperation makes our region economically stable, socially rich, and future-proof. Within “alma”, agriculture and gastronomy aim to connect and form a value-creation community. The Dolomites Region Seiser Alm offers enormous potential for this – thanks to a wide range of agricultural products and a creative culinary scene. This creates true added value for locals as well as guests.

    Growing roots together, growing together
Open communication and deep mutual trust form the foundation of the “alma” project. All participants clearly and honestly express what they do. They work closely together and can rely on one another, experiencing appreciation for their work and creating lasting added value for their businesses, the region, and all its visitors.

A shared investment in the region’s future
Forward-looking thinking is as fundamental as acting responsibly with natural resources. Together, we assume ecological, social, and economic responsibility. Local value cycles also thrive on fresh ideas. That is why we encourage everyone to try new approaches courageously, share their knowledge, and communicate openly. By moving forward decisively, we can jointly develop innovative products and partnerships.

“Alma” supports cooperation and networking between agriculture and gastronomy. This creates an autonomous and vibrant value-creation community. A key element is the list of participating producers, who provide high-quality agricultural products and thereby underline the authentic character and quality of the Dolomites region Seiser Alm.

    Völser Products
Our farmers and producers create and process only the best nature has to offer. Thanks to the sunny location in Völs am Schlern, a wide range of delicious products flourish here and are sold directly from the farm or in selected shops in refined, processed form: fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs, vinegar, sauerkraut, free-range eggs, cheese, bread, meat, honey, juices and syrups, jams and fruity spreads, wine, and much more.

Visiting pioneers in the Dolomites Region Seiser Alm
Local value cycles that connect
The event “Visiting local pioneers”, organised by IDM South Tyrol – Alto Adige and Seiser Alm Marketing, clearly demonstrated how cooperation creates strong local value chains. The focus lay on local cycles and innovative partnerships between agriculture and gastronomy. Participants gained exciting insights into pioneering businesses: farmer Klemens Villgrattner supplies grain to the Tratter Bakery; their bread is served, among other places, at the Cyprianerhof Hotel. At the Stampferhof, Veronika Stampfer showcased how animal-friendly husbandry and high-quality meat processing can work.

Klemens is one of the region’s pioneers in sustainable local development. Together with baker Johannes Tratter and chef Monika Damian from the Cyprianerhof, he demonstrates how a regional food cycle can emerge and function: through short distances, mutual trust, and above all, deep-rooted conviction.
